Shinnecock Hills Golf Club. It is located on the eastern end of Long Island. On the south fork in Southampton. Great Peconic Bay is to the north. Shinnecock Bay is to the south. It is easy to see why this great old golf course often is referred to as the best British Open track in America. The original 12-hole layout was constructed in 1891 with the help of the Shinnecock Indians, who lived in the area since the 15th century. Incorporated in 1891, it is considered by most to be the first golf club in the U.S. The U.S. Open has been played here 3 times, in 1896, 1986 and 1995.
