Five Things To Look For When Picking Golf Balls
It doesn't matter whether or not you are a professional golf player. In fact, you will stand to do much better than you already do with the right gear.
Nothing can be truer when it comes to golf balls. You have to use the right ones. But just how do you know which golf balls to buy?
There are so many out there in many different brands. Here are some things that you should look for when you are in the market for golf balls before your next back or front nine.
• Control – If you are the type of person who wants to control the way a ball flies in the air, spins and lands on the ground, the kind of golf ball you need should have a soft outer cover. The one that you need has what is called a balata cover.
Although all golf balls may seem like they feel alike, they don't. The balata cover is a rubbery coating that is applied to a golf balls surface. Many professionals will tell you that they can control the spin and even add an extra few yards when they hit this kind of ball. These are also great balls to use if you are a beginner. However, they are not very durable.
• Distance – You need to have a ball that can be hit far in the fairway. For this kind of feature in a ball, you need one that has Surlyn. Surlyn coating is a little different from the balata, and although some might say that there is no real difference, this is the ball you want if you want it to travel farther.
This is actually a ball made of two parts and it cannot be controlled very well so this is not so great on the green. Again, this is the ball you want if you are looking to improve in distance.
• Best of both worlds – Now, why choose between control and distance when you can actually have both? What you will need to look for is a ball that is made of 3 layers or parts and still has a Surlyn coating. This kind of ball is great because it travels well, can be controlled to a certain extent and is very durable.
• Spin – Again spin is important when it comes to controlling a ball on the fairway or green. But spins are different with the different kinds of balls that are available on the market. It is therefore important that you research and try out balls with different spin ratings. There are only three ratings and that is high, medium or low. You can test a ball's spin if you strike it with a driver or an iron.
• Structure – Keep in mind that you can tell what kind of experience you will have with a golf ball just by holding it. A softer golf ball means that you will have better control of it. A more tightly wound or hard ball will give you better distance on the golf course.
